Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Tulsa OK
1233 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...
Issued at 1233 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

 - Dangerous heat and humidity likely to continue through at least
mid week. Expect daily heat headlines.

 - Low thunderstorm chances northwest of I-44 tonight and into
tomorrow. Strongest storms on the northwest fringes of the forecast
area may cause gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall.

 - Low to medium thunderstorm chances Saturday and Sunday afternoons
from southeast Oklahoma into western Arkansas in association with an
increase in moisture from the south.

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and Tonight)
Issued at 1233 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

A frontal boundary will approach the OK/KS border after midnight,
with widely scattered storms expected to continue near the boundary
mainly through the pre-dawn hours this morning. Some lingering
showers could continue after sunrise, but should be in a decreasing
state through mid morning. Best chances will continue to stay mainly
along the northern tier of counties near the Kansas border as the
ridge axis will limit chances from I-44 south. Heavy downpours will
continue to be the main threat along with some isolated strong wind
potential from convectively driven downbursts in the strongest
storms. Initial cloud cover this morning across far northern
Oklahoma could limit temperatures a couple degrees this afternoon,
but overall, another hot and humid day is in store across the region
with another heat advisory in effect for much of the area this
afternoon...have expanded the coverage some across northeast
Oklahoma with recent less aggressive trends in cloud cover and
precipitation. NBM temperatures continue to run a degrees or two too
warm so have knocked down afternoon highs more in line with short
term guidance.

More isolated to widely scattered storms will become possible again
by mid to late afternoon through the evening hours, maybe a little
further east than yesterday where any remnant boundaries set up
across northeast Oklahoma, so will introduce some slight chance PoPs
accounting for that scenario in similar spots to yesterday. Deeper
moisture lifting north out of the tropics could also spawn an
isolated storm or two across western Arkansas, but coverage looks to
be too low to mention at this time as a majority of the chances will
stay south and east for today. Highs this afternoon will be in the
mid to upper 90s with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

.LONG TERM...
(Saturday through Friday)
Issued at 1233 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

Upper level ridging centered over the southeast CONUS through the
first part of the weekend at least will allow deeper, tropical
moisture associated with a tropical wave over the Gulf Coast to lift
northward over the eastern half of the forecast area. This should be
enough to allow scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop
during the peak heating afternoon hours mainly across the terrain
areas of southeast Oklahoma and western Arkansas where lift can be
enhanced somewhat. Best chances look to be on Saturday, before the
wave begins to depart on Sunday with more subsidence expected on the
backside by Sunday afternoon. Still, isolated coverage across
western Arkansas is still forecast on Sunday. As such, the uptick in
cloud cover will take a bit of the sting off of the heat for these
locations as well this weekend. Elsewhere, rain chances will be
minimal and the heat will continue with heat headlines likely
through the weekend across northeast Oklahoma.

The wave will depart on Sunday and the mid/upper level ridge is
progged to build over the Central and Southern Plains by late
weekend through mid week. This will likely bring some of the hottest
temperatures of the season with high temperatures approaching the
century mark for many location Monday through Wednesday. This will
also mean very little in the way of rain chances for the first part
of the week with just hot and dry conditions persisting. Guidance
remains consistent on a strong upper trough moving through the Great
Lake Region from mid to late week acting to break down the eastern
part of the ridge somewhat and possibly pushing another surface
boundary close by. It`s still uncertain to what extent this will
impact weather around here, but at least a weakened ridge should
help lower temperatures a few degrees from the first part of the
week along with bringing a return of rain chances for parts of the
area through the end of the forecast period.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1233 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025

VFR conditions will likely prevail through the forecast period
for all sites. Still monitoring showers and thunderstorms west and
north of the forecast area early this morning. Did not include an
mention of precipitation in TAFs, but may need to add a TEMPO
group for SHRA/TSRA at BVO, RVS, and TUL if convection is able to
ride any outflow that is produced from said storms over the next
couple of hours. Additional showers and storms may develop across
northeast OK late in the afternoon and into the evening today.
However, the probability of impacts at any site remain very low at
this time. Winds will remain out of the south/southeast and
relatively light through the period.
